The language of vintage: "Jadeite"

Jadeite is a green glass dish-ware most commonly made in the 1930's and 40's.  Typically women would receive a free item in a common grocery box such as oats or flour.  Today, these dishes can be highly collectible and fetch a high price.  The most common brand is "Fire-King" by Anchor Hocking, but there are a couple of other brands that were popular at the time as well.  Also, I collect Jadeite...So if you are looking to sell some, send me an email at Nicolioso@gmail.com

Thrift excursion!

We live in a very small California town.  The nearest thrift store is ten miles away and the really good ones are about 25!  We ventured to the latter to check out a few of our favorites.  Here is our day in pictures...

Here we go!...

The scenery ain't bad!

There were some sweet vintage Halloween costumes at the Salvation Army...Moses was jammin around!

The Red Church Thrift is always a hit...just like Tubby the Tuba!

We stopped for lunch...Moses dined on green, while I went for greens.

 What a wonderful day...Clearly!

The language of vintage: "Bric-a-brac"

Bric-a-brac/ noun:  Miscellaneous small objects would be the technical definition.  Odd little items that intrigue you.  An entire section at the Salvation Army.  I define them as small bites of awesome!

Welcome to The Old Brown Shoe's vintage blog!

I have decided to put what I am doing in the vintage world here on this blog so that you may adventure and decorate right along with me.  Since I am not one for wasting time I will go right into my excitement about finding these adorable little angels at the thrift store.  I put them up in my living room as a little early holiday decor, but I may never take them down...they are so damn cute!  It hurts!  And here is the kicker...They were only fifty cents a piece!  Yeah, I know!
